Our motorcycle death attorneys at Buckfire & Buckfire, P.C. are reporting a tragic Kentwood car accident on 44th Street SE that killed 58-year-old David Edwin Stanaback. According to police, Stanaback was traveling east on 44th Street when a car turned left in front of his motorcycle.  At the time of the accident, Stanaback was wearing a motorcycle helmet. The helmet cracked during the collision. Stanaback was taken to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital, but died from later on from his motorcycle accident injuries suffered. The driver of the vehicle, 23-year-old Theodore Thomas did not suffer injuries in the accident.

I am very sorry to hear about this accident. My condolences go out to the family of the deceased victim.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 75% of all motorcycle accidents happen when a vehicle fails to see the motorcycle before the accident. Other common causes of motorcycle accidents include trucks or cars forcing motorcyclists into guard rails, speeding by the vehicle driver and/or motorcycle rider, and vehicle turning left before a motorcycle on the road.

Approximately 90 percent of all motorcycle crash fatalities include a motorcycle with another vehicle. In 2008 alone, about 5,290 people died in the United States from motorcycle accidents which is one of the highest mortality rates ever documented.

Our motorcycle death attorneys advise victims of their legal rights. For this Kentwood accident, the family of the deceased victim may be able to make a claim for Survivor Loss Benefits. This can include payment of funeral expenses and loss of other services.

In addition, the family members of the deceased victim may also have a claim for a Michigan wrongful death lawsuit against the driver of the vehicle if determined to be at fault. At the very least, an experienced Michigan motorcycle accident lawyer should be contacted to discuss legal rights.
