Michigan City Man Killed In Accident After Car Turns In Front Of Motorcycle

Our Michigan motorcycle wrongful death lawyers are reporting a deadly Pine Township motorcycle accident on U.S. 20 and LaPorte County Line Road that killed a 60-year-old Michigan City man, Grady Royal.  According to police, Royal was riding his 2002 Harley-Davidson motorcycle on U.S. 20 eastbound when a westbound vehicle turned in front of his motorcycle causing him to be ejected from his motorcycle.  The car turning left was making a turn onto LaPorte County Line Road and was driven by a 28-year-old woman, Amy Ream.  Royal was taken to the Franciscan St. Anthony Health hospital where he died as a result of the motorcycle accident injuries.  The driver of the car did not suffer injuries in the accident.

I am very sorry to hear about this accident. My condolences go out to the family of the deceased victim.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 75% of all motorcycle accidents happen when a vehicle fails to see the motorcycle before the accident. Other common causes of motorcycle accidents include trucks or cars forcing motorcyclists into guard rails, speeding by the vehicle driver and/or motorcycle rider, and vehicle turning left before a motorcycle on the road.

Approximately 90 percent of all motorcycle crash fatalities include a motorcycle with another vehicle. In 2008 alone, about 5,290 people died in the United States from motorcycle accidents which is one of the highest mortality rates ever documented.

Our motorcycle attorneys advise victims of their legal rights. For this Salem Township bike accident, the family of the deceased victim may be able to make a claim for Survivor Loss Benefits. This can include payment of funeral expenses and loss of other services.

In addition, the family members of the deceased victim may also have a claim for a Michigan wrongful death lawsuit against the driver if determined to be at fault. At the very least, an experienced Michigan motorcycle accident lawyer should be contacted to discuss legal rights.
