The law firm of Buckfire & Buckfire, P.C. are reporting on a Meridian Township motorcycle crash involving a motor vehicle on Saturday, September 7th, in the afternoon hours at Meridian Road near Grand River Avenue. According to police, a woman was riding her motorcycle when she collided into a car heading in the opposite direction. As a result of the crash, the motorcyclist lost her life, while several others sustained minor injuries.

I am terribly sorry to hear about this accident. My condolences go out to the family of the deceased victim and I hope the injured victims have a fast recovery without any permanent damages.

According to statistics, there were a total of 4,082 motorcycle accidents in the year 2008. Of those collisions, 127 were fatal motorcycle crashes. The number of motorcycles involved in fatal crashes has increases 58.8 percent since 1999 (10 year period). 3,314 bikers were injured in 2008 in Michigan and 125 motorcyclists were wrongfully killed.

Family members of those who have lost a loved one in a Michigan motorcycle accident do have legal rights and may be able to submit a claim for surivor loss benefits, as well as a wrongful death lawsuit. However, legal rights of a motorcyclist killed are dependent on a number of factors including how the collision occurred, the ownership of the motorcycle, and the facts of the accident itself.  The determination as to family members of victims can receive these benefits involves a number of complex legal issues and it is therefore important that an experienced Michigan motorcycle accident lawyer be consulted as soon as possible so that important filing deadlines are not missed.
